Definition of poppet heads

  • Cross pieces of timber above the mouth of a shaft, on which rest the axles of the pulleys or sheaves which guide the ropes attached to the cages or tubs in the shaft.
  • Commonly applied at Ballaarat to the whole erection (consisting of walls and roof) which covers the shaft and the brace.
